If you had told me a few years ago that I’d be deep-diving into phonics research in the evenings, I probably would’ve laughed, poured another coffee, and kept cutting laminating sheets.
But here we are.
Hi! I’m Chrissy from Priceless in Primary, a teacher in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, and over the last few years my teaching journey has taken a big turn — straight into the world of the Science of Reading.
And honestly? I’m so glad it did.
The Moment I Knew Something Had to Change
Like many teachers, I was doing all the things — guided reading, word work, cute activities — but I kept noticing that some of my students just weren’t making the progress they deserved.
That’s when I started learning more about the Science of Reading and structured literacy. The more I learned, the more I realized how powerful explicit phonics instruction really is.
I wanted resources that were:
- Research-based
- Simple to use
- Engaging for kids
- And realistic for actual classrooms
So… I started making my own.
From Classroom Creations to a Growing Bundle
What started as a few phonics activities for my own students quickly grew into something bigger. Every time I created a new resource, I thought: “I can’t be the only teacher who needs this.”
That’s how my S.O.R.-Aligned Phonics Growing Bundle was born.
